Bible Reading

Spring Term 1st Half: Value:  Truthfulness
Christians believe that truth is revealed in the Bible and supremely in the person and life of Jesus Christ.  Through Jesus’ teaching we are given an insight into the nature of God and the way in which He means us to live.

Telling the whole story: In this act of worship children will explore what Jesus meant when he said “I am the Light of the world” (John 8.12).  We will explore how when someone tells the truth it is as if a light has been switched on and things are clearer to see.  If someone tries to cover the truth it becomes confusing and harder to work out what is real or true.  Sometimes we only see part of the picture, and part of the truth can be misleading.

Seeing the Truth: In this act of worship the story of Saul on the Road to Damascus is used as a stimulus to reflect on the theme ‘a change of heart’.  Children are encouraged to recognise that sometimes we have not understood the truth of a situation or belief.  When this happens Christians believe we need to admit our mistake and be prepared to live our lives in a different way. Half Term

Spring Term 2nd Half Value: Humility (Including Easter & Holy Week)
Christians believe that Jesus was both servant and King.  He demonstrated this through His life, death and resurrection. Jesus taught his disciples what it means to be truly humble. Christians believe that they can serve God by demonstrating humility through their attitudes and actions.  This approach to life runs contrary to many role models presented to children in the media and popular culture.

Showing humility by serving others:

In this worship children reflect on the Christian belief that Jesus was both King and Servant, and that he taught his disciples to serve one another.
VFL – Humility: Week 1 John 13:1-20

Humility to seek help:

In this worship children hear the story of the centurion who asked Jesus to heal his servant. They reflect on the Christian understanding that, at times, we all need humility to ask for help and a willingness to accept help from others.

VFL – Humility : Week 2
‘A Soldiers Faith’ from The Lion Bible

Humility to take advice:  through the Greek legend of Daedalus and Icarus, children will reflect on the pitfalls of pride and the importance of having the humility to receive advice from others VFL – Humility: Week 3
Read the story of Daedalus and Icarus from a book of Greek myths

Living a humble life:

In this worship children will reflect on the life of Saint Columba as an example of a Christian who lived a humble life.
VFL – Humility: Week 4
Read the story of Saint Columba
Matthew 25:40
